Book Launch!
A member of my choir, Janet Blachford has just published a novel all about the drama of being in a church choir! The best part being, of course that it takes place in our church, with our choir's performances as the premise for the book. So far I've read about 40 pages of it and I hate having to put it down!! It's a light read, but a very interesting perspective of what it's like to be a chorister and to sing with a tight knit group of dedicated people. As you can clearly see, the front cover is a picture of me during one of our rehearsals for the St. Matthew Passion, which we performed in 2004. The first thing every member of my choir noticed was the missing red wrist band from my left wrist... How unusual! But otherwise that is eaxctly what we look like every Sunday.
Janet launched her book at the University Club on Wednesday evening, which was attended by choristers old an new, as well as members of the congregation and other notable friends of Janet's. Janet kindly asked me to sing for the launch, so Jonathan Oldengarm and I performed the Rejoice Greatly from Handel's Messiah.
In my opinion everyone needs to own a copy of this book for sheer pleasure and to gain insight into what really goes on in the world of choral music! It's available online from Amazon and would make a perfect gift for the holidays!!
