Halloween Silliness!

Last night marked the Annual Halloween bash at Jess'! Good food and great fun was had by all. The only thing missing was Steve... :'( Next Time!!! Through out the course of the night Jess and I made it our goal to "spread the sparkles". As part of our costume we covered ourselves in gold sparkles and by the end of the night even the cats were sparkly...

This is Mme J-Bumblebee and her teacher Scarlet, spreading the sparkles...

'Death' (aka Pauly) and Mme C-Bumblebee, spreading the sparkles...

Before her transformation into Mme J-Bumblebee, Jess pranced happily in the dress she made by hand!! Well done dalin'!

A very happy sparkle-spreader! At this point in the evening my tongue was virtually numb due to the mass quantities of Jelly Beans I'd ingested.

I need a nap

Well midterms seem to be over and paper season has started *groan*. I have 4 due in the next eight days! At least by next Friday I can take a moment to breathe before a concert on the 23rd of November with McGill, and a concert on the 27th with A&P. Neither of the concerts are easy rep. but they should be fine. Ironically I managed to get a solo in the McGill concert (the only solo for Soprano) but it's in the only piece I don't actually consider to be music: Shoenburg's De Profundis. A perfect lesson in 'Take what's given to you'...
I just spoke with a friend of mine from Ontario who gets a reading week this week, how is that fair?! I could use a week specifically for reading too!!! There are not enough hours in a day to read about History and Religion, but at least I'm finding it really interesting! I didn't realize how much I already new in both these subjects.

THANKSGIVING!!

Well I have to say that my idea to host a thanksgiving dinner was a great success! I was afraid of poisoning people, but no deaths occurred...Earlier that Sunday morning, against all odds I managed to pull off a pretty good solo at church (despite all that's been going on) if you have 3 minutes or so go check out either the video or just the audio version. It's about half way through the Anthem: Britten's Te Deum in C and lasts about 3 mins.
After church I managed to persuade my ex-boyfriend to drop me off at Walmart (which was on his way home) so I could get a turkey baster. As a result I was able to get Hubert the Turkey in the oven on time! Thanks Evan ;)
1. Hubert the Turkey completely defrosted and waiting to be stuffed at 1:30pm...
2. A much happier Hubert all stuffed with and juiced and waiting for his steaming!
3. Hubert all steamed and waiting to bake...
4. ALL DONE! Hubert might have wanted to used a little more sunscreen ;) but he was absolutely DELICIOUS!!

Thanksgiving isn't really Thanksgiving without a good pumpkin pie and I baked these ones all by my little self!

My carving skills left something to be desired... like Carving Skills!

The Friends!!

This was the very first time I'd ever hosted or even cooked for a Thanksgiving dinner and I wasn't sure if any of it would turn out, let alone the turkey! Just as a precaution I had a lasagne that I'd made the day before ready to eat in the fridge... Thank you Emily and Megan for being my guinea pigs, I had no idea if this was going to work or not! We had a great time eating turkey, mashed potatoes, carrots, bean, stuffing, fresh cranberry sauce (that I'd made the day before) along with fresh rolls. For desert we had pumpkin pie and fresh whipped cream followed by tea in the living room (and not a lot of movement!).
At about 11pm Jess got back from her parents' Thanksgiving dinner and joined us for gossip and tarot card readings!

Preparations

I've been attempting the impossible -trying to cook-... I've successfully made cranberry sauce, sausage lasagne and whole-wheat buns ALL from scratch. After my little break, my goal is to finish a pumpkin pie, apple crisp and a few other things. Not to mention calling England (where the parents are) to find out the family secret to roasting a turkey...

The Beginning

Well after seeing that both my sisters now have blogs, how could I resist any longer! Welcome to the world of a Montreal Soprano...
